Cookies

No banner, and here is why

This site sets no cookies of its own and measures nothing. Two embedded services and our host are a different matter, so rather than put a pop-up in your way, we would rather just explain exactly what happens.

What a cookie is, briefly

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between requests — that you are logged in, say, or that a video was paused halfway. Related technologies such as local storage and session storage do a similar job.

What this website does

bucks.com.hr is a static site: fixed pages, no forms, no accounts, no database, no payments. It sets no cookies of its own, and it writes nothing to your browser's local or session storage. There are no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising, and no attempt to recognise you from one visit to the next.

We cannot honestly say "this site uses no cookies" and leave it there, because the site is hosted by someone, and two parts of it are loaded from other companies' servers. Here is the full list.

What other services do

Service Why it is here What it receives or sets Where
Cloudflare Hosts the website Receives every page request, including your IP address, and may set a strictly necessary security cookie such as __cf_bm. On every page
YouTube (privacy-enhanced) The villa video Served from www.youtube-nocookie.com. Receives your IP address when the player loads; defers its cookies until you press play. Only on pages that show the video
OpenStreetMap The map Receives your IP address when the map tiles load. Following a map link takes you to their site under their own terms. Only on pages that show the map

The host's security cookie

Cloudflare serves the site and protects it from automated abuse. As part of that it may set a strictly necessary cookie such as __cf_bm. Cookies of that kind are exempt from consent requirements because the site could not be delivered safely without them. It is not used for advertising and it does not build a profile of you.

The video

The villa video is embedded in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, from www.youtube-nocookie.com. That mode defers cookies until you actually start playing — it does not eliminate them. And as soon as the player appears on the page, YouTube's servers have already received your IP address, because your browser had to fetch the player from them. If you never press play, you avoid the cookies but not the connection.

The map

The map is served by OpenStreetMap. Loading the tiles sends your IP address to their servers in the same way. Clicking through to their site leaves ours, and what happens there is governed by their terms, not by this page.

Why there is no consent banner

Consent banners exist because sites set non-essential cookies — mostly for analytics and advertising — and must ask first. We set none. The only cookie in play is our host's strictly necessary security cookie, which is exempt, and YouTube's, which do not appear unless you choose to play the video.

Putting a banner in front of you would suggest there is a choice to make that there is not. Instead, this page tells you exactly which other companies see your visit, and the next section tells you how to stop them.

How to avoid the embeds

  • Do not press play. The video sets no cookies until you start it.
  • Block third-party content in your browser. Every modern browser can block third-party cookies, and most privacy modes or extensions can block third-party frames outright. The video and map will simply not appear; the rest of the site works normally.
  • Clear what is already there. Your browser's settings let you see and delete cookies for any site, including this one.
  • Skip the map. The contact page gives the address in plain text, and the local area page describes the surroundings in words.

Blocking cookies broadly can break other websites, which is why we mention it as your choice rather than a recommendation.

Changes to this page

If we add or remove an embedded service, this page is updated to match and the date at the top changes. For the wider picture of what we do with information, see the privacy page. Anything else, write to bookings@bucks.com.hr.
